k. i want to dye my hair white, pink and black cause i like the colors. and even though i highly dislike skinny pants, canvas vans, fully black dyed hair, cutting, and ect; some of my friends think im boarder lining emo. so whats the diffrence between emo, punk or what ever i am? and any ideas of what sterotype i might be?

Good question...the colored hair sounds more scene to me than emo...emo usually wear very dark hair with a layer over the face...I don't think your friends know what they are talking about, and by the way emo is more of a lifestyle (the emotional artistic sensitive type)..anyone else who considers themselves emo for just the clothing is a BIG TIME poser and I say this as a stylist who has studied the movement (not an High school kid!). And so is punk..both styles come from music movements, emo for emotional hardrock and punk from punk music, both represent a movement and beliefs; too many teenagers today however, make a shameless attempt as wannabes and end up looking like posers.

I hope the explaination helped..if you like to change your hair do it, but not to fit in a group..especially if you don't know anything about the colture behind it...just be yourself an original..you can't mess it up ;)

You dont have to fit a stereotype.Just because you want to dye your hair those colors doesnt mean you are emo so its stupid that they are saying that.Well emo is a sub of punk so both labels are somewhat related.just being different could be anything

stereotypes SUCK! it just confuses people and make them change. your're just you! emo's dont' cut themselves or are always depress and stuff like that. it's just things people say or something people do but emo is a music genre that came WAYYYYYYY before emo stereotype.

Your not emo. Emo is EMOTIONAL, it doesn't mean cutting, wearing vans, dying hair black, etc. It has to do with your personality, not your favorite colors or the tightness of your pants.

Emo is apparently a kind of punk, as is goth,which is pretty much anti-authority.

do you wear prep clothes?

if so, you are PREMO. which means prep and emo. you incorporate prep clothing such as polos, brand tees, flats into your outfit. the emo part comes when you dye the bottom of your hair black, or 3 different colors...(?), wear band tees, and wear those gross little rhinestone studded belts.

emo-skinny jeans, tight tees, striped shirts underneath, vans, dark colored skimmers, belts, choppy hair, bangs

different-wear whatever you want without matching or looking cool.
