What should i do about my emo/goth/punk little cousin?

ok so my cousin just turned 11 and ever since he was 10, he has changed himself. he always wears black and nothing but it. his hair is long and covers his eyes. he also takes those "emo" pictures. is this a phase? will he hopefully grow out of it? he's doing this because his friends at school are also wearing all black and obsessing with MCR and those bands. and he is almost turning my other little cousin, same age, into him. my other one use to like hip-hop but he changed himself to fit in with his cousin and their friends. now he turned skater and listens to punk and rock. anyway, my 11 yr old cousin is trying to change himself to fit in. i tried talking to him but he thinks its cool. what is also weird is that he is also a skater. to me, he seems like a skater emo gothic person who wears all black. he even tried to do his hair with the back of his head spiked up and his front all long. i cant do anything about it because his parents, aunts uncles, and relatives all encourage him.

You can only do one thing: love him and respect him. It doesn't mean you have to agree with what he's doing all the time, but you should be there to support him so he can count on you. Attempting to make fun of the music he listens to (MCR is screamo/alternative, not goth, or punk), or the way he dresses, will only make him angry at you and possibly drive him further away. He most likely just needs you to be a good influence, so be patient (although it can be hard) and let him know you're there for him.

He's not your son, leave him alone.

He's just a kid, let him be who he wants, he's not hurting anyone.

oh yeah he will grow out of it. My cousin started that **** to. I dont think it should be encouraged. Children will always try different things to be aprt of the group. Just remember its hard to be young and feel left out. None of us find our selfs until we try different things right?

You cant do anything. He needs to find his own way. Everyone goes through phases as a teenager. Maybe he'll grow out of it, maybe he'll decide its who he really is. As long as he's happy whats the issue. And if he's not happy all you can do is reassure him that you like him for who he is not how he dresses, he'll figure it out eventually. :)

Let him cry in the dark. No, just kidding. They will grow out of it. Im 22 and i saw a lot of this crap when i was in high school. Now most of those people that moped around school with their studded belts and chokers are wearing regular clothing and sport a normal hair colour. its just another form of rebellion. just hope that this is the only phase he goes thru and doesnt start hanging out with drug dealers.

He's 11, what he does now is not going to last the rest of his life. The more attention you pay to it, the longer it will continue--just to spite you. Plus, you're his cousin, not his parent, so it isn't really your business. If his folks are ok with it, it shouldn't bother anyone else. As far as his effect on your other cousin--your other cousin has a choice (even at 11), and it's his to make, not yours.

Besides, what difference does it REALLY make how he dresses at 11? I wore sweater dresses, 2 different earrings, armloads of rubber bracelets, scrunch socks and side ponytails, but I don't now.

Doesn't sound like he's hurting anyone. If his parents doesn't mind it, why should you?

leave him alone. let him grow up how he wants to. it's one of todays fads. just because it isn't the look for you doesn't mean you should force others into your opinion. you already said you can't do anything about it...so...don't.

hes young. its probably just a phase. just like my baggy jnko jeans were a phase. i babysat a 12 year old who dresses like this and seems dark, but is otherwise a funny, smart, and energetic kid who you wouldnt imagine to be dark and into goth music. its more than likely something he is trying out for the time being as a little phase.

What should i do about my emo/goth/punk little cousin?

just let him do it. as long as he doesnt get into the drug scene (or anything else bad like that) like alot of those people do then i dont see anything wrong with it.

he'll most likely grow out of it.

Leave him be and let him enjoy himself. So long as he isn't hurting himself what's the problem?
