firstly, i dont think high-lighting and colour streaked hair is tacky.. i just think they dont get along - its more of a contrast.

red would be awesome. i have really really dark brown hair and i'm always playing with colors. i'm not emo or anything but i love having funkier hair. anyway... the blue will fade to light blue eventually to a greyish white... red will fade to a copper color... neither will last really really long. also remember how the highlights are placed is what makes it tacky... make sure it looks good and that's not to overwhelming. powerful colors are great.... but too much is like... Whoa

If you want your hair to look natural, then yes, streaky chunky highlights are tacky. If you are using an unnatural color then I don't think it matters as much.

I would deff. go to a salon. I have extemely curly hair and have always hated it until I accually straighted in. I wanted my curls BACK! Anyway, If you dye it your self then be sure to use color-treated shampoo because the dye will wash out and begin to fade in like a week and a half or 2 weeks. I know mine did. The black faded to a brownish orange color! It was gross!

Unfortunately trying to manipulate curly hair that is already damaged won't look very good. If you are really daring and want to do something interesting why not try the old chelsea mod style. The majority of your head is shaved to about 1/4" and keep the entire outer border of your hair about 3 - 4". This way you can dye it whatever colour you like and you will have chopped off all the old damaged hair.

Also it won't take too long for the hair to start growing and this will give you a whole bunch of options when you are looking to do something different.

If it is damaged from dying it a long time ago, why would you want to dye it again? You should probably cut it short and just start over... not do anything to it for a long time.

the only problem with blue with your natural color is that if you decide later to get rid of the blue it will stain your hair and would be very hard to change your hair color again. Yet it would look cool. I would sugest a bright orange.

I would not suggest dying the underlayer of your hair a different color of the rest, since it can look really strange. Layers do work on most people (especially if your hair isn't too curly), but I would suggest going to a few [really] good hair stylists and asking them, but before actually getting the cut, ask some people that you know what they would think about it.

layers are always fun. i personally like extreme layers. if you want it to be emo/punkish then you should probably make it darker like black but if you dont want tht much then a darker brown and probably like bright red or someother unnatural color. if you want an unnatural color but dont want it to be like WHABAM then you can put a lay of the naturaler color over it. yeah i'd think thtd look rad

Layers are great it gives your hair more movement. As for getting hair layered toward your face it would depend on shape of face. I personally don't like the black colors, they are hard to change once you put them in, so think about this before you have it done. I did not think people were still doing this, but what do I know. You don't say what skin tone you are or eye color so helping with color would be hard. If you want something different, talk with you hair stylist and see what they suggest. Get some hair style magazines they can help a great deal. Just remember every hair style won't look the same with your hair. For instance if you have thick, curly hair don't expect to wear a stick straight style unless you want to commit to a lot of work. Talk with your stylist, that is your best bet.

Getting your hair cut should reflect on your personality. I would not reccomend getting it dyed black underneath because when you pull it back it might look discolored, but if you do not intend to pull it back, it might look cool. Framing your face with layers is a great idea, though. It adds interest. I know someone who dyed the top of her black hair red just from the scalp to about midway down. Don't be afraid to approach someone and compliment their hair %26amp; ask where they got it done. That is... if you're not happy w/ your stylist. If you DO like your stylist, then try to be as detailed as possible in telling him/her what you want. They'll probably be happy to try something a little different on you.
